Fire Risk Assessments From Mainpoint Fire and Security
Did you know that it is now compulsory for companies to conduct a fire risk assessment?
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires just about all UK business to conduct a fire risk assessment on their workplace. As an employer you are responsible for ensuring that you comply with the legislation.
If you have a fire certificate you still need to conduct a fire risk assessment as they relate to two different pieces of legislation.
You are legally obliged to carry out a fire risk assessment and update it on a regular basis. This is irrespective of size of company and the market in which you operate. If you or your company employs five or more people this must be demonstrated by a hard copy present on the premises and available for inspection.
A fire risk assessment is not the same as a fire certificate.
If you have a fire certificate you still need to carry out a risk assessment. Many insurance companies offer policy discounts to any business that has carried out a fire risk assessment.
Unless you’re an expert it can be surprisingly hard to spot potential fire hazards.
Our fire risk assessment services will help you protect your premises and people by giving you full visibility of what the fire risks are and where they lie.

Plumis Automist has been used to provide an innovative fire safety solution for the conversion of Villiers House, a Regency-style building in the historic centre of the spa town of Leamington Spa, into 40 stylish apartments.
Special treatment was necessary to preserve the historic features of the building whilst achieving the contemporary design that the architects, Warwick-based Robothams envisaged. Automist was used to provide a compensatory alternative means of fire protection for 39 of the 40 apartments, which are open plan and do not have a separate lobby to protect the escape route.
Robothams had worked with Mainpoint Fire Protection of Cheltenham on previous contracts and knew that Mike Fowler, Mainpoint’s Director would be able to recommend a suitable solution. Mike had no hesitation in specifying the use of Automist, which uses water mist to suppress incipient fires before they can do any damage to properties, fixtures and fittings. The Automist system is activated utilising a dedicated heat alarm as recommended in Approved Document B, effectively eliminating nuisance alarms. Dependent upon requirements either hard wired or wireless detectors can be used. The Automist pump unit with integrated control unit was connected to the domestic water supply and requires only 6 litres of water per minute per nozzle to provide optimum fire suppression, which in comparison to traditional sprinklers minimises run-off and consequential water damage.
Warwick District Council Building Control Officers requested a Fire Engineered Report to reassure them that Automist would be suitable for installation in a building of the size of Villiers House. This was carried out by Graham Green on behalf of London Bridge Associates Ltd who was happy to concur with its use and consequently, 53 Automist units were installed. Paul Owen, Technical Manager of Spitfire Properties LLP, the contractor on the development would be happy to recommend Automist for use in similar projects. “The Plumis Automist system integrated very well into our high specification apartments. Aesthetically the product also worked well as it was installed around the base of the kitchen tap.”
It is a legal requirement for companies to undertake regular fire safety training for it’s staff.
Fire Safety training is a valued service which Mainpoint undertakes for a growing number of businesses in Gloucestershire, Bristol, Oxfordshire and Worcestershire.
It’s a service which is greatly valued- as this kind testimonial which we receievd last month from one such course which we ran:
“Once again we enjoyed having Mainpoint carry out our fire safety training, as we do year upon year. Whilst the content is thorough and ever relevant, it is always put over with an element of fun, making it easier to absorb!”
“I have always, and will continue to, highly recommend their training services.”
Paul Staite –Environment and Health & Safety Manager, Karndean Designflooring – June 2015.
